|Workshop hours: same as floor hours
Power tool shop hours: Open same as floor hours, close at 10 PM every day.
The shop is open to the public, and when no one is there, all equipment should be put away and the shop left neat. If you are the only person in the shop and you leave, put all tools away whether you took them out or not.
When you are finished with a tool, put it away and clean up your area. This includes soldering irons, soldering aids, all hand tools, and any mess made by your tool.
Students in classes using the shop are assigned to clean the shop at closing time once per semester. When the student whose assigned day it is asks you to clean up, be courteous and help them to do so.
Shop cleanup starts one half hour before closing time. At that time, stop working on your project and start cleaning up.
If you are staying later under lab assistant supervision, you are assuming responsibility for shop cleaning. Give your name to the person who is assigned to cleaning that night so they can pass it on to Ben and Tom.
If the shop is messy in the morning and you were responsible for cleaning the night before, it will affect your course participation grade.
ALL STUDENTS, NEW AND RETURNING, MUST ATTEND A SAFETY SEMINAR AND TAKE THE SAFETY QUIZ AGAIN IN ORDER TO USE THE SHOP.
Power tool shop:
Never use a tool without someone else in the shop.
Never use a tool you haven't been trained on, or which you are uncomfortable using.
Never use a tool when fatigued, or under the influence of any drugs (including cold medicines, etc. that make you drowsy, or hyperactive)
Certain power tools will only be available when a lab assistant is on duty. If you need to use that tool and have been trained on it, and it is not available, contact the lab assistant.
Power to the tools is turned off at 10 PM. Do not ask a lab assistant to leave the tools on late for you.
Always wear proper clothing when using power tools (no open toed shoes, no loose clothing that will catch in the moving parts).
Do not wear gloves when operating power tools.
Always tie long hair back when using power tools.
Always use goggles when using power tools. If the tool is very loud, use ear protection too.
Never use noxious chemicals or aerosols in the shop. Spray paint outside or elsewhere.
Never use a damaged tool. If a tool is damaged, report it immediately and have a staff member mark it as damaged.
Use power tools in the power tool area only. Close the door to lessen noise whenever possible.
Failure to follow these guidelines will result in loss of your shop priveleges.
